Updates

On this page i intend to post regular updates as to what I am up to, I hope you find at least some of it interesting;

***Update 30th September 2019***

It's one year ago today that I finished my previous job to go full-time self-employed and try and make a go of a career of what I do.
I just wanted to take a few moments to thank everyone who has helped and supported me over the last twelve months and to give you all a bit of an update to how it's all going! It's been a pretty incredible year, with ups and down as all years have I guess, but I've been fortunate to do some great things with some really great people, as well as becoming a Dad again! Some of the things I've been up to include;

Snooker - I MC'd the Champion of Champions, Home Nations, Coral Snooker Series and Shoot-Out for World Snooker live on Eurosport and ITV, as well as the WDBS Snooker at the Crucible live on Freesports TV. My role with the snooker also involved carrying out player interviews, betting previews etc, which were all great experience for me. I've got the Champion of Champions in Coventry to look forward to in November on ITV4, and then I'm booked to MC the Coral Snooker Series again in the new year. I'd like to get involved in some snooker exhibitions moving forward, so watch this space!

Boxing - It's been another busy year with Stefy Bull Promotions in Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley, and I've also MC'd for a few other promoters too, including one show for Matchroom Boxing, live on Sky Sports. I've already been booked for about a dozen shows for 2020, so it looks like being another fun 12 months.

Darts - I was lucky enough to meet Jess Harding from JBD Sports Agents earlier in the year and he has since booked me for several legends darts shows. These shows are great fun, with dancers, giveaways, audience participation and more, and they've given me a real chance to work on my compering skills. I'm booked for several more of these shows over the next twelve months, and I'm really looking forward to them. Keep an eye on the countdowns and events I post on here and social media to see where you can come and watch a show. Similar to snooker, I'd love to get involved in more darts exhibition events, so that is something for me to work on.

Rugby League - I have just completed my tenth full season as Stadium Announcer for Super League's Wakefield Trinity, and am very happy to have had my contract extended for another season, so I'll be back there for the 2020 season.

Football - I was delighted to be asked fill in on the mic at Doncaster Rovers for a couple of games when their regular Stadium Announcer was committed elsewhere, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Fishing - I was fortunate enough to once again MC Fishomania, live on Sky Sports in the summer, and also the Sports Stars Fishing Championship on ITV4, hopefully I'll be at both events again in 2020.

Wrestling - It's a year now since the first series of WOS Wrestling finished on ITV and earlier in the year I had the honour of carrying on my role as Ring Announcer on a national tour, which was great fun, and we performed to packed houses all over the country, including a very special show at a sold out Tower Ballroom in Blackpool. Sadly, there is no news about another series or tour yet, but I'd love to be involved again and I'm open to wrestling bookings from other promotions too.

Events - I once again hosted the fantastic Castle Howard Proms in the summer, with the classical proms on the Saturday featuring tenor Wynne Evans, a spitfire flypast and a huge fireworks display, and the on the Sunday I had the honour of introducing Ronan Keating to the stage. I also hosted the Red Ball for Barratt Homes at York Racecourse, helping to raise £63,000 for the UK Sepsis Trust at this brilliant event. I'd love to host more events moving forward and this is something I'll be looking to explore more in 2020.

Training - It was always my intention to fill some of the gaps in between sporting events by using the skills I learned in over 20 years working in the automotive industry by getting involved in training and coaching. Through top motor industry consultancy RTS, this year I've worked on the launch of the new Toyota Supra, both the initial webinars and then a ride and drive event, I've provided after sales training for Hyundai and sales training for Mercedes Benz Vans. I have more of this type of work to look forward to as I've been rebooked to work with both Hyundai and Mercedes Benz Vans, and hopefully there'll be more to come.

So thank you to everyone for their help and support and to everyone I've met over the last twelve months, it's the people I get to meet who make what I do so enjoyable. If I can help in any way, or if you can help me to progress my career, please do not hesitate to get in touch, and keep following me across social media @announcerphil

***Update 18th August 2019***

Just had a fantastic weekend, firstly filling in on the mic for Doncaster Rovers v Fleetwood Town on Saturday, and then on Sunday I was very proud to be the MC for the World Disability Billiards and Snooker Tour Championship at the Crucible, Sheffield, live on Freesports TV.
Here I am at the Crucible with the team from the WDBS and the four players who took part in the Tour Championship, won by Shabir Ahmed after a great final against Daniel Blunn.

I have just added a few upcoming events I'm working, including rugby league, boxing and darts, all shown on the countdowns on the left. Here are a few posters for these events.

As always, keep up to date with all the events I'm working on by following me on social media @announcerphil

***Update 7th August 2019***

I haven't posted an update for a while, so I thought I'd share details of the last, fantastic few days! On Saturday I once again compered the Proms at Castle Howard, an incredible stately home just outside York. Guest soloists were Tenor, Wynne Evans (most famous for the Go Compare adverts) and Soprano, Sarah Fox, and the evening was started off by the wonderful singer/songwriter Rachel Early (known as Rivers). Close to 6,000 people enjoyed the evening, which included Stephen Bell conducting the London Gala Orchestra, a spitfire flypast and an incredible fireworks display.
On Sunday, also at Castle Howard, I was the MC for Ronan Keating live. Sadly, Ronan's performance was cut short by horrendous thunderstorms overhead which made conditions dangerous both for the performers and the crowd, so I was called upon to announce the show's abandonment, but up until then it had been a great night.
On Monday I headed down to Farnborough to MC the JBD Sports Agents event, the Target Darts Sports Stars Fishing Championship. The night before the event all the competitors got together for a launch night, barbecue and darts tournament, which I hosted, and then on Tuesday we headed to Gold Valley Lakes for the main event. It was a brilliant day, all filmed to be shown on ITV4 later in August. The Team championship was won by Team Super League, whilst the singles event was won by the ever-lively Jimmy Bullard.
Pictures from the last few days are shown below.
Coming up I have stadium announcing for football and rugby league, a few charity events I'm hosting, and announcing for snooker, boxing, darts Thai-boxing and more. Keep an eye on this website and my social media feeds (@announcerphil) for more information.

With the fantastic PDC Dancers ready to start the Target Darts Sports Stars Fishing Championships for JBD Sports Agents at Gold Valley Lakes.
I watch on as Jimmy Bullard lifts the Target Darts Sports Stars Fishing Championship Trophy, alongside Barry Hearn (Chairman of Matchroom Sport), Garry Plummer (MD of Target Darts) and Adrian Lewis (two time PDC Darts world champion)

***Update 27th May 2019***

Congratulations to Nikki Adlington of Liverpool who has won the competition below for the signed snooker cue. A huge thank you to everyone who entered, and in doing so helped out the fantastic charity Kitchen for Everyone York, which provides meals and support to the homeless in my home city of York. I really do appreciate all the entries and support for this fantastic cause. Thank you.

***Update 17th April 2019***

I'm giving away a snooker cue signed by some of the best snooker players in the world to one lucky winner! The signatures on the cue include Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Selby, Neil Robertson, Judd Trump, Kyren Wilson, Stuart Bingham and more! A huge thank you to World Snooker for arranging this for me. There are some pictures below. All I ask is that you do something brilliant for a great cause. Kitchen For Everyone is a charity which feeds homeless people in my home city of York, and they are always in need of donations, but I'm not asking for people to send money. Kitchen For Everyone have recently set up an Amazon wish list which you can find by clicking here for things they need to carry on doing the amazing work they do. I would like people to buy just one item from their wish list for them (some items are really cheap) and send me proof of purchase via either social media or email (a screen grab of the order confirmation is absolutely fine). Everyone who does this will be entered into a draw, after the competition closes I will pick a winner at random and I will send the lucky winner their prize. The competition closest midnight on Sunday 26th May 2019. Please note, I am not benefitting from this in any way at all, and everyone who enters will have done something great by helping such a worthwhile cause. I am personally covering the cost of sending the cue to the winner. Thank you, and please feel free to share this!

A huge thank you to everyone who entered, and in doing so helped out the fantastic charity Kitchen for Everyone York, which provides meals and support to the homeless in my home city of York. I really do appreciate all the entries and support for this fantastic cause. Thank you.

***Update 26th February 2019***

I'm giving away my WOS Wrestling pin badge that I wore on my dinner jacket throughout the recent UK tour, and one of the genuine cue cards I used on the TV show (both are shown in the picture below), to one lucky winner! All I ask is that you do something brilliant for a great cause. ***Update February 2019***

It's been a fantastic, if hectic start to 2019 for me, as the MC for World Snooker at two tournaments already, with another three coming up in quick succession, the ring announcer for ITV's WOS Wrestling Live Tour and also working at Toyota for a week to host their launch webinars for the new Toyota Supra. It has been fantastic to meet so many people on my travels up and down the UK already this year, with packed houses for the wrestling and snooker alike, and so many people saying nice things about my work. I'm always looking for more work, whether it is working in sport, in broadcasting or at events, please get in touch if I can help in any way.

***Update July 2018***

It's been a while since I updated this page, so here goes...
Really proud to have worked for World Snooker a few times this year, including getting to announce the players at the Crucible, Sheffield at the Snooker World Championships! The big news of the year for me has to be the brand new series of WOS Wrestling, which will run for 10 weeks on ITV, starting at 5pm on Saturday 28th July. I was so proud to be involved in the pilot show back in 2016, but this series will take it to another level again. ITV have recruited the cream of British wrestling and they've put together an incredible series, which I'm certain people will love. For more information on the series, visit www.woswrestling.co.uk

***Update December 2017***

I've come to the end of my announcing year, and it's been a crazy one! I've had the pleasure and honour of announcing world, European, Commonwealth and British title fights, fulfilling a long held dream of announcing at Wembley, MC'd Fishomania for the 4th time, stadium announced another incredible season at Wakefield Trinity, announced at two world ranking snooker tournaments, among other things! I've been fortunate enough to appear on the BBC, ITV and Sky, and I've had the opportunity to work with some genuine sporting legends.
Away from the microphone I've had an amazing year, travelling to several different countries and having some fantastic family time. I've done more than my fair share of running, cycling, walking and climbing, most of it with some really great people.
What makes what I get to do so special are the people I am lucky enough to meet and get to know, at events, away from the mic and on social media. I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has shown me kindness this year, you put a smile on my face and remind me how lucky I am. I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year. Here's to an incredible 2018!

***Update July 2017***

The show in Preston for Poxon Sports and ITV Sport went really well, and since then I have had the honour of being the sole MC for two ITV Box Office boxing shows, firstly at London Olympia and then at the SSE Arena Wembley. Ring announcing these two shows was a real honour for me, the first saw Chris Eubank Jnr capture the IBO Super Middleweight world title, and the second saw him successfully defend his belt against the legendary Arthur Abraham and also saw Lee Selby successfully defend his IBF world title on the same show. Everything went great and the atmosphere at both shows was incredible!

***Update 23rd January 2017***

What an odd week I've just had!
Completely out of the blue I got a call asking whether I could be free to MC in Preston on Saturday night for ITV's return to broadcasting live boxing with the "Big Fight Live". Obviously, I jumped at the chance and had a great time at the Preston Guildhall, getting some great feedback both in the venue on the night and on social media since. It was a quality evening of boxing, culminating in 2 WBA title contests, broadcast live on ITV4. Here are a couple of pictures from the night.

***Update 12th January 2017***

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and new year!
The response the World of Sport Wrestling on ITV on new years eve was incredible, with #woswrestling trending number 1 in the UK on Twitter for several hours on the day. If you missed the show it is available through the ITV Hub by clicking here.
Also, I am really pleased to be able to announce that I will be announcing for one day of the "Snooker Shoot-Out" on ITV in February, and for Fishomania on Sky Sports for my 4th consecutive year in the summer.

***Update 23rd December 2016***
Sorry it's been a while since I last posted an update on here, but things have been so busy! I've had a great year, MCing loads of superb boxing shows, Fishomania on Sky Sports for the 3rd consecutive year, another season at Wakefield Trinity as well as stadium announcing for the Rugby League Four Nations, including England v Scotland and Australia v New Zealand. I am rounding the year off by announcing a charity rugby league match in my home city of York in memory of a friend of mine and well respected rugby league official, Stuart Evans, on Tuesday 27th December, before taking to possibly the biggest stage of all as I get the honour of being the MC for the return of ITV's World of Sport Wrestling, airing at 5pm on New Years Eve on ITV. I grew up watching the original World of Sport so I was incredibly touched to be asked to MC this. Thanks for all of the support I've received during 2016, I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year. Don't forget to watch World of Sport Wrestling on ITV at 5pm on New Years Eve.

***Update 21st August 2015***
It's been a very busy time for me, hence the lack of updates on here. Firstly I achieved my goal of losing 9 stone, in just over 10 months. Following this I was a runner up in the Slimming World national Man of the Year 2015 competition, something which I am very proud of. I have also recently hosted the full weekend of Fishomania 2015 for Matchroom Sport, live on Sky Sports, and I am very glad to report that it all went really well. I ran the York 10K, achieving a personal best time of 46 minutes 31 seconds, raising over £600 for the Steve Prescott Foundation in the process.
I am still presenting Terrace Talk on Radio Yorkshire every other Saturday, and I have a host of events booked in for the rest of 2015. I am, as always, looking for more presenting/hosting/MC work, so if you can help me in any way please get in touch. For now, thank you for reading and taking an interest in what I do.
Don't forget, you can keep totally up to date on what I'm doing by following me on twitter @announcerphil Thanks again for all of your support!

***Update 2nd May 2015***
It's a while since I last updated this page, so I thought it was about time I did. I've been really busy over the last year with both announcing/presenting and also in my personal life. Regarding work, I have worked several times for Matchroom Sport, and for the first ever time for Matchroom Boxing, hosting Divide and Conquer, a professional boxing show at Hull Arena. The show as broadcast live on Sky Sports and it all went really well. This summer Matchroom have booked me to host all three days of Fishomania, live on Sky Sports. In my personal life I have been concentrating on losing weight, and I have now lost nearly 9 stone in just over 10 months. I set myself the goals of losing 9 stone and completing the York 10K run in under an hour this August. When I started I couldn't run at all. I am now very near my weightloss target and I am comfortably running 10k in under an hour regularly, so I'm happy with my progress.

***Update 6th April 2014***
I haven't updated this page for a while as I haven't really set myself a new big goal! That said, I have wanted to get into radio presenting for a while and I have finally achieved this as I now present "Terrace Talk" every other Saturday, live on Radio Yorkshire. You can listen in from 10am to 2pm on DAB Digital radio or online at www.radioyorkshire.co.uk

***Update 3rd November 2013***
I am still to set my next goal, but in the meantime things are going great. I am an official stadium announcer for the Rugby League World Cup 2013, announcing many teams including the current champions New Zealand, and I also got to host the try-outs for the official cheerleading squad! I have also started working for Matchroom Sport, so far on the Masters Pool, pre-recorded for Sky Sports, and on the Coral Masters darts, live on ITV. I got to announce the 16 time world champion Phil "The Power" Taylor, which I consider to be quite an honour in itself.
Don't forget, you can keep totally up to date on what I'm doing by following me on twitter @announcerphil Thanks again for all of your support!

***Update 11th May 2013***
I have achieved my goal of ring announcing a boxing world title contest. It was an incredible night as the people of Doncaster cheered on the town's first ever boxing world champion as Jamie McDonnell beat Julio Ceja to become the IBF Bantamweight Champion of the World. I would like to thank everyone who has supported and helped me in achieving this, whether it's been by encouraging me, or booking me for shows, it has meant the world to me to have so many great people behind me. The night itself was amazing, the atmosphere electric, and it was watched not only in the UK on Primetime, but also on Televisa in Mexico. I am now working out what my next goal will be, but if it is half as much fun to achieve as this has been then I'm looking forward to it already! Don't forget, you can keep totally up to date on what I'm doing by following me on twitter @announcerphil Thanks again for all of your support!

***Update 15th April 2013***
Two and a half years into my five year quest to ring announce at a boxing world title fight I am incredibly proud to be able to announce that Dennis Hobson Promotions have very kindly asked me to MC Jamie McDonnell v Julio Ceja on Saturday 11th May 2013 for the IBF Bantamweight Championship of the World. This will be an open air stadium boxing show with a full supporting undercard, including Darlington's Stuart Hall contesting the IBF Intercontinental Bantamweight Championship. For information regarding the show please visit www.dennishobson.com or contact me directly for tickets. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported or helped me get to this point in my announcing career, I appreciate everything you've all done for me!!  Don't forget, you can keep totally up to date on what I'm doing by following me on twitter @announcerphil Thanks again for all of your support!
***Update 13th April 2013***
Tonight I MC'd the IBF Youth Middleweight Championship clash between Adam "The Bomber" Etches and the Belarussian Andrei Abramenka. Adam, from Sheffield, won the fight, and I thoroughly enjoyed the step up to championship level boxing ring announcing. The show went really well, and I was praised by many of the officials in attendance. Here is a picture of me and the new IBF Youth Middleweight champion, courtesy of Chris Bevan.

***Update 7th February 2013***
Great news! I will be on the microphone for my first ever IBF title fight! On April 13th 2013 at Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield I will be working for Hatton Promotions matchmaker Richard Poxon when Adam "The Bomber" Etches takes on the Belarusian, Andrei Abramenka for the IBF Youth Title. This is another great step towards my dream of announcing at a professional boxing world title fight. Don't forget, you can keep totally up to date on what I'm doing by following me on twitter @announcerphil Thanks again for all of your support!

***Update 24th August 2012***
It's been a while since I updated this, as I have been working hard on progressing towards my goal of ring announcing at a world title fight. I have been announcing at professional boxing and MMA shows, as well as working on the mic for Super League's Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. Coming up I have my first ever professional boxing title fight, which I see as a great step towards my dream, when I MC a British Masters title bout at the Doncaster Dome on 1st September. After that I will be announcing the undercard at the Echo Arena in Liverpool for the huge Frank Maloney bill featuring David Price v Audley Harrison. I'll update this as and when there are any further developments towards my dream.

***Update 26th February 2012***
Since my last update I have been shown ring announcing on Sky Sports HD's Saturday Fight Night Live, and I have hosted a number of dinners and events. I am busy progressing in my announcing career and have more shows coming up with Frank Maloney, as well as having secured more compering work, hosting dinners for Up Close Events, which has seen me work with Big Joe Egan and Cass Pennant and will shortly see me working with Danny Dyer.

***Update 17th December 2011***
This is my 36th birthday and the first anniversary of my quest. It's been an incredibly exciting year and one I have thoroughly enjoyed! It seems fitting that I can today announce what is probably the biggest development so far towards my dream. Legendary boxing promoter Frank Maloney contacted me a few weeks ago to say he would like to have a look at what I can do, and following a couple of shows he has now asked me to ring announce for him for the rest of the boxing season, initially announcing the undercards, with a view to stepping me up for the main events at a later date. Maloney Promotions have been involved in some of the biggest shows in the UK, with all of their shows being televised on Sky Sports. It's a very exciting time to be involved with Maloney Promotions as they bring through the next crop of young British boxers like Jamie McDonnell and David Price, as well as promoting the HW Factor, in which they are looking to unearth the next big British heavyweight champion. Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me this year, it's been a fantastic ride so far, and it's only just begun! Check out www.frankmaloney.com for more information about Maloney Promotions.

***Update 19th November 2011***
Another big step was taken last night when I was the MC at a dinner for the first ever time. The event was "An Evening With Ricky Hatton" at the Galpharm Stadium Huddersfield, which meant working with the boxing legend himself, doing all of the introductions and a charity auction. The event went really well, with a great atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I hope to do more of these type of events in the future. Big things could be opening up in the boxing world for me, but I don't have any news to tell quite yet, watch this space!

***Update 6th September 2011***
Things are still progressing really well, and I am racking up more and more experience of fight shows all the time. I am very happy to confirm that Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have confirmed that I will continue to be their stadium announcer for the 2012 season, which looks like being a real landmark season for the club as they begin their new three year Super League licence. I have also been booked to compere a very exciting dinner which takes place in February 2012, details to follow as and when I have them.

***Update 12th July 2011***
It's almost seven months since I set my objective, and I am making great strides! Earlier this month I was described by a promoter as "the best up and coming mc in the UK!". I am steadily establishing myself as one of the top announcers for thai-boxing and MMA/cage fighting in the country, and, whilst finding pro-boxing tough to crack, I am very happy with my progress so far!
